Goa adopts BHASHINI for Konkani-led governance

The MeitY BHASHINI Division and the Goa government recently held a workshop in Panaji to advance language-first digital infrastructure in the state. While government digital services have often remained locked to English and Hindi, this initiative aims to cut through that barrier and serve regional-language speakers more effectively.

To tackle this, BHASHINI bundles translation, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, transliteration, and multilingual APIs into a single stack. During the Panaji session, participants mapped out how government bodies, academic institutions, and startups can work together to expand Konkani datasets and AI models.

Achieving voice-first governance requires strong cross-sector collaboration to make regional languages the default for public services. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the partnership moves closer to ensuring that digital platforms speak the language of every citizen at the grassroots level.
