Apple sues OpenAI over stolen trade secrets
Apple accuses OpenAI of taking trade secrets through former employees to support its hardware development.
Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the company of stealing trade secrets through three former employees to fuel its hardware push. The complaint states that Tan, Liu, and Peng allegedly brought unreleased Apple designs and confidential data to OpenAI.
According to the allegations, the recruitment process involved sensitive information handling. Tan allegedly pressed candidates on top-secret Apple projects and asked them to bring parts, while OpenAI reportedly coached recruits on Apple's exit procedures, advising them not to sign documents or name OpenAI.
This legal action comes as OpenAI races to launch AI hardware and reach an IPO. Apple states it has the necessary receipts to support its claims of trade secret theft.
