Apple accuses OpenAI of taking trade secrets via three former employees to power its hardware development.
Apple has taken legal action against OpenAI, accusing the company of stealing trade secrets through three former employees to fuel its hardware push. According to the complaint, former Apple engineers Tan, Liu, and Peng allegedly brought unreleased designs and confidential data with them when they moved to OpenAI.
The lawsuit details specific methods used during the transition. Tan allegedly pressed candidates on top-secret Apple projects during interviews and asked them to bring parts. Furthermore, OpenAI reportedly coached recruits on Apple's exit procedures, advising them not to sign exit documents or name OpenAI during their departure.
These stakes arrive as OpenAI races to launch AI hardware and reach an IPO, while Apple maintains it has the receipts to prove the breach of confidential information regarding its chip and server design work.
